There are no villains in this book, only people, and their challenges, dramas, and triumphs feel deeply, rewardingly real. I can’t say enough good things about Nathan, our protagonist, who’s greatest challenges in life include: the outdoors (yes, all of it), a passel of diabolically clever ground squirrels, and figuring out how to navigate his complicated feelings for his best friend (and the limitations of their somewhat codependent bond). Nathan makes mistakes, but he’s fundamentally an honest, kind, funny, caring person, and watching him with anyone— his amazing dad, his best friend Lorcan, and especially Miles, with whom he vibes so perfectly, but reads so cluelessly— is so much fun. I liked every moment of this story— it made me smile a lot, laugh sometimes, and ended in a good place for everyone involved, which is really everything you could ask for. I cannot recommend it enough.*I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
